SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police have released more details on an incident in South Philadelphia that involved a half-naked man.
At approximately 3:59 a.m. Sunday, police observed the male, who appeared to have been thrown from a black Mercury Milan, being punched and left unconscious.
The vehicle then fled eastbound on Reed Street.
Upon further investigation, it was determined through an interview with the 57-year-old man that, because of an adverse effect of his new medication and alcohol, he became delusional.
The man told police he ran into the street banging on passing vehicles and proclaiming to be the Messiah.
The man also stated that he struck a 24-year-old male that was inside of a sedan.
When the male opened the door, the 57-year-old fell to the ground.
That same male exited the vehicle and the half-naked man again tried to strike him.
Police say that's when the 24-year-old pushed the man to the ground.
The 57-year-old told police he got back up and went after the group of people that were from the same sedan. The group returned to the vehicle and attempted to leave the area.
Police say the 57-year-old man suffers from PTSD and depression.
He was transported to Jefferson University Hospital and treated for a busted lip.
All parties have been cleared by police.
