DREXEL HILL, Pa. (WPVI) -- A man has been arrested for allegedly bringing a gun and several rounds of ammunition to Drexel Hill Middle School.

In a press conference held Wednesday afternoon by Upper Darby Superintendent Michael J. Chitwood, the arrest of 32-year-old Domonique Jordan was announced. He is charged with possession of a weapon/firearm on school property.

Police were called to the school around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, located on the 3000 block of State Road in Drexel Hill.

Responding officers met with the assistant principal, who turned over a bullet that apparently had been found by one of the teachers in a bathroom for staff members.

The officers, accompanied by that teacher, conducted a search of that bathroom, but found nothing.

During a follow-up interview with the assistant principal, police say Jordan came into the office and claimed the bullet as his.

The suspect, in possession of a blue backpack, was asked if he had any weapons to which he replied, "no", according to police.

The suspect then reached into his pocket and pulled out a clip containing 12 rounds of ammunition.

Police then proceeded to pat him down.

A subsequent search of the suspect's backpack turned up another clip containing 12 rounds of ammunition, a third clip containing 17 rounds, an additional five rounds and a .40 caliber Glock.

Police say several of the bullets that were found in the suspect's possession are hollow-point bullets.

The suspect is not employed by the Upper Darby School District nor a resident of Upper Darby.

He works as a Personal Care Assistant through a subcontractor used by the middle school.

The suspect had been assigned to Drexel Hill Middle School for the past six weeks, police say, to a special needs student in the 8th grade.

Police say the suspect does have a concealed weapons permit, but is not permitted to carry on school property.

No injuries were reported during this incident.
