Officials say it was carbon monoxide fumes that forced residents out of their West Philadelphia apartment building early Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on the 4600 block of Spruce Street.
Firefighters responded to a report of an odor of natural gas inside a house with a number of apartment units.
Several residents were evacuated from the building.
Rescuers took a pregnant woman to the hospital to be evaluated as a precaution.
PGW arrived on the scene and determined the problem was not a natural gas leak, but CO fumes leaking from a carbonized heater inside the home.
Crews turned off the gas heater to make sure the area was safe, and residents were allowed back inside a short time later.
No injuries were reported.
