FAIRMOUNT PARK (WPVI) -- A witness tells Action News that he was traveling eastbound behind one the vehicles involved, a gray Toyota Corolla, when it suddenly veered across the yellow center line and into the path of a westbound silver Mitsubishi.
The two cars slammed into each other.
A westbound red Toyota Matrix then hit the first two vehicles.
The driver of the Matrix, a woman, was able to exit her car, as was a 25-year-old man in the Mitsubishi, who injured his leg.
The driver of the Corolla was trapped inside his car.
Firefighters had to cut the Corolla's roof off to rescue the driver, who suffered head and hip injuries.
According to the witness we spoke with, he went to the aid of the Corolla driver, and said it appeared the man may have been suffering from some sort of medical condition - possibly a seaizure.
As for if that medical condition was a cause or effect of the accident will be up to investigators to determine.
Kelly Drive was shut down in both directions for several hours while first responders tended to the injured and crews worked to clear the scene.
The roadway has since reopened.
