Mother of Chester teen killed: 'I know my son cried for mom'

CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- The mother of a teen who was killed in Chester, one of three innocent victims hit in a hail of gunfire, has a message for her son's killer.

"I want you to man up," Stephanie Powell said, as the search for the gunman continues.

Zenas Powell, 14, died after the shooting at in the 1100 block of Pine Lane around 8 p.m. Saturday.

"It hurts to see my baby hurt and I can't fix it. I know my son cried for mom," Stephanie Powell said.

His cousin, 16-year-old Quamar Powell, was critically injured.

Janene Shipley, 32, was wounded, with a bullet still lodged in her shoulder. She was in the passenger seat of a vehicle, talking to the teens outside a corner store.

"He knew that there were kids out there. There were kids out there. No remorse, no nothing... they didn't care," she said.

Zenas, nicknamed 'Naz,' was set to graduate eighth grade this week from Chester Community Charter School. The founders of the school's managing company, Vahan and Danielle Gureghian, are paying for the funeral, officials said.

Police have made no arrests and have not identified any suspects. But his family says people know who they are and need to come forward.

"Naz didn't deserve this. Naz made his little good old mark on everybody's heart in the little 14 years of his life," Stephanie Powell said.

Rewards totally $10,000 are being offered for an arrest in this case. The City of Chester is contributing $5,000, while the Gureghians are donating the other $5,000.
