MIDLAND, MI -- A woman claims the Planet Fitness where she used to be a member failed to warn her about a policy that resulted in her membership being revoked.
Yvette Cormier told WNEM-TV she was shocked when she saw a man who looked like a woman walk into the Planet Fitness women's locker room while she was changing.
Cormier said she was scared and confused, so she immediately brought it to the attention of the gym's front desk staff. She also submitted a complaint to Planet Fitness corporate offices.
"They told me the same thing, that he was allowed in there because that's the sex he wants to be," said Cormier. "I was stunned and shocked. He looked like a man. He did not look like a woman."
She went on to say she did not realize that person was transgender and understands some men self-identify as women and vice versa. But her complaints did not sit well with Planet Fitness which has a no judgment zone policy.
Cormier said she was notified her membership was dropped because she violated company policy.
WNEM-TV spoke with Planet Fitness, and the company called Cormier's complaints inappropriate and disruptive because she complained to other gym members.
The company also issued the following statement:
Cormier says she's not focused on getting her membership back, but she wants warn other members about the policy.
