DNC delegates react to resignation of party chair

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Cheers greeted delegates as they arrived at the Democratic National Convention kick-off party, while some delegates tell us they were quietly cheering the resignation of their party's chair.

"I was glad to see it. I think she's plagued with some bad news," said Pennsylvania delegate Mike Cordero of Fayetteville County.

"It's a little late, but it's a good sign. A step in the right direction," said Felicia Cowden from Hawaii.

Forget the elephant, there was a donkey in the room at the convention launch that some didn't want to talk about.

"I'm not happy to see her leave. She's an excellent chairperson. She's an outstanding congressperson," said Jim Thompson, South Carolina delegate.

Bernie Sanders called for Debbie Wasserman Schultz's resignation after leaked emails suggested she favored Clinton during the primaries.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson says the chairwoman did a lot of good for the party, but her time has come.

"She has done a smart thing to step away from being the center of controversy," said Rev. Jackson, Civil Rights leader.

Jackson and other delegates say her resignation comes at the right time.

"She has tried to make an attempt to bring unity to the party," said Carlos Del Toro, Virginia delegate.

A peace offering of sorts that a Sanders delegate from West Philadelphia accepts.

"At the end of the day, we're going to work together and make sure Trump loses," said Gwen Snyder, West Philadelphia delegate.
