Fairytale prom night for special young couple

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- Complete with a horse-drawn carriage and police chief escort, it was a very special prom night for very special young couple in Upper Darby.

But it's not the horse-drawn carriage that makes this couple so wonderful.

It isn't even the fact that they were escorted to their prom by Upper Darby Police Chief Michael Chitwood.

What makes them wonderful is the fact that even though Clarence Bell and Jennifer Cassidy have Down syndrome, they've lived their young lives proving they are just like everyone else.

Clarence's mom Janai says just look at his resume.

"He's an advanced yellow belt in karate, he works one day a week at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, he's graduating on the 16th and he's an all-around lovable person," she said.

And Jennifer is just as lovable.

There's no doubt it was a special night for everyone attending Saturday night's Upper Darby High School Senior Prom.

But there were simply too many reasons for both the Bell Family and the Cassidy Family to make sure this dance was that much for special for their kids.

"It doesn't matter if you're black, white, Down syndrome, special needs, anything - everybody should be as one. My son is like that, he's lovable. He doesn't care if someone is fat, skinny, black, white - he just loves everybody and he just wants to be included like everybody else," said Bell.

Both Clarence and Jennifer's parents are proud of their accomplishments -- especially the fact that they're graduating from high school this year.
