Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, long a subject of trade speculation, cleared waivers before Tuesday's 13-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, making him trade-eligible.
Several published reports named the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers among the teams interested in acquiring the 11-year veteran, who started at second base on Tuesday.
Utley, who was 2-for-4, can block any trade because of his 10-and-5 rights as a 10-year MLB veteran who has been with his current team for five seasons. He was activated from the 15-day DL last Friday after being out more than a month with right ankle inflammation. He is hitting .196 in 70 games this season.
Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said he plans to rest Utley for a day game Wednesday and after Tuesday's game said there will probably be a discussion about a move on Wednesday.
