Flyers hold memorial for founder Ed Snider
PHILADELPHIA -- Ed Snider, the founder of the Philadelphia Flyers, was honored during a celebration of his life Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center.

The ceremony began with a video montage followed by the singing of God Bless America by Lauren Hart.
Comcast Chairman Brian Roberts told the audience that he and Snider would video chat after every Flyers win as a superstition.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman spoke about Snider's passion for the Flyers and called Philadelphia one of the "most phenomenal hockey cities in the world."
Youth Hockey Foundation graduate Virlen Reyes of Kensington recalled Snider's words, "Don't be afraid, just be yourself, accept the challenge, and know I am proud of you."
Flyers great Bobby Clarke said the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation will ensure they never become a faceless corporate team.
"When I pass, I hope I get one more chance to play in the orange and black for Mr. Snider's Philadelphia Flyers," Clarke said.
Jay Snider, Ed's son, remembered what would be one of his father's final messages.
"The last full sentence he ever spoke was, 'I can't thank the Flyers enough for everything they've given to me and my family,'" Jay said.
Jay himself had a message for the Washington Captials who will meet the Flyers in Game 5 on Friday.
"To the Caps, if you're watching this, we're not done," Jay said.
The ceremony concluded with Ed's grandson Jacob Snider playing "What a Wonderful World" on the piano.
