Flyers sign backup goaltender Neuvirth to multiyear deal

PHILADELPHIA -- The Flyers have signed goaltender Michal Neuvirth to a multiyear contract.

Neuvirth replaces Ray Emery as Philadelphia's No. 2 goalie behind Steve Mason. Terms of Wednesday's deal were not announced, but a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun that Neuvirth will receive$1.5 million in Year 1 and $1.75 million in Year 2.

Neuvirth split last season with the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Islanders. He went 7-20-4 with a 2.98 GAA and .914 save percentage.

Neuvirth was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the second round of the 2006 draft. He played parts of six seasons for Washington, posting a record of 59-41-13 with a 2.67 GAA and a .910 save percentage over 134 appearances.

In 168 NHL games, Neuvirth has a record of 66-63-17 with a 2.73 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
