Fmr. U.S. soccer star Lauren Holiday has brain tumor successfully removed month after giving birth

Former U.S. soccer star Lauren Holiday is recovering after successfully having a brain tumor removed at Duke University Hospital.

The procedure took place just one month after the 28-year-old gave birth to a baby girl with her husband and former Philadelphia 76ers star Jrue Holiday.

Jrue's agent told ABC News, "In September, Lauren Holiday gave birth to Jrue Tyler Holiday. She weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces. She is healthy and at home with her family."

The benign tumor, known as a meningioma was located on the outer layer of Lauren's brain and was detected during her pregnancy this summer after she experienced terrible headaches.

"Meningiomas are the are the most common benign tumor in humans," said Dr. John Boockvar, Director of the Brain Tumor Center at Lenox Hill Hospital. "Just because they're benign doesn't mean they don't cause trouble. Meningiomas can be harmful if they get too big."

Reports say doctors induced her early so she could undergo surgery.

Friends and fans were wishing Holiday a speedy recovery.

Fellow soccer player Ashlyn Harris tweeted a picture of Lauren's initials and her jersey number writing: "I love you Chen."

Her former UCLA college team tweeted, "Sending our love and best wishes for a speedy recovery to @laurenholiday12 after her surgery today."

Lauuren and Jrue met in college and married in 2013.

Jrue, now a member of the New Orleans Pelican, is taking an indefinite leave from the team to take care of his family.

"We're always in his corner and he knows that if he needs anything he can call any of us," teammate Anthony Davis said.

Last week, Jrue posted a picture to Instagram with the caption "Missin the squad."

The Pelicans general manager Dell Demps says the basketball star will be welcome back whenever he is ready.

"When the time is right, Jrue will come back to the team and when he comes back we're gonna welcome him with open arms," Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said.

For now, Lauren is recovering in North Carolina with her husband and new baby girl by her side.
