SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Taney Dragons are trying to do something special.
The diverse little league team practices at the Marian Anderson Recreation Center in South Philadelphia but their players come from all across the city.
"It's a special group. We knew we had something, I knew we had something special when they were about 10," said Alex Rice, coach.
These all-star players are ages 12 and 13 and are state champions after winning the Little League Pennsylvania State Championship on Sunday in Skippack Township.
"To actually realize what you just did, after the final out, what you just did and too look over the crowd and see all the parents crying," said Rice.
The champs will now head to the Mid Atlantic regionals in Connecticut on Thursday.
"Hopefully we can keep on going but to be there is also good, to have the experience of being at regionals," said Joseph Richardson, player.
However they'll definitely take a win and they've got young woman with quite an arm to do it.
"Just throw strikes, that's all you gotta do is throw strikes," said Mo'Ne Davis.
Mo'Ne, an 8th grader from South Philadelphia, is one of few girls in the male dominated sport. She says to her it's more than just baseball.
"We're trying to put the name Taney out there in the world to let everyone know that inner city kids can make a big difference in the baseball industry," said Mo'Ne.
The team has big dreams of making it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.
However the Taney Dragons have a big challenge over the next 10 days at regionals. They play Maryland on Saturday and Delaware on Sunday.
The trip is expensive and the team is hoping for donations to help with the costs. To donate visit, http://taney12ubaseball.weebly.com/.
