PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies called up Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley Friday, and the 24-year-old made his presence known by breaking upChad Bettis' no-hitter with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Veteran outfielder Grady Sizemore was designated for assignment to make room for Asche. Sizemore batted .245 (24-for-98) with six RBIs.
Asche, a former third baseman, made his first career start in left field as the Rockies won 4-1. He was sent to the minors to learn to play the outfield after the Phillies brought up prospect Maikel Franco to play third base. Asche batted.245 (26-for-106) with two homers and four RBIs before he was sent down.
Ben Revere moves from left field to right field to accommodate Asche.
