The Philadelphia Phillies selected outfielder Mickey Moniak of La Costa Canyon HS (Carlsbad, California) with the No. 1 pick in Thursday night's MLB first-year player draft.
Scouting report: Moniak has the most immaculate feel to hit among the draft-eligible high-schoolers. Lightning-quick wrists, tremendous hand-eye coordination, simplicity (but not ineffectuality) in both the footwork and load, feel for the bat head and a contact-friendly swing plane.
