Todd Gurley won't play vs. Arkansas

Georgia running back Todd Gurley did not make the trip Friday with the rest of the Bulldogs and won't play Saturday against Arkansas, Georgia senior associate athletic director for sports communications Claude Felton confirmed to ESPN.com.

Gurley also missed last week's game, a 34-0 win at Missouri, while school officials investigate allegations that he was paid for signing memorabilia.

The NCAA sent out a tweet Thursday saying it was continuing to work with Georgia and awaiting the school's request for reinstatement. Georgia had put out its own statement earlier in the day that there was "no new news at this time" and that no further comment was necessary.

Georgia officials met with the NCAA's eligibility branch while in Indianapolis for an appearance before the NCAA Committee on Infractions regarding the school's swimming and diving program.

Gurley, a Heisman Trophy candidate and the SEC's rushing leader with 773 yards, has been suspended since Oct. 9.

Freshman Nick Chubb is again expected to start at running back in place of Gurley. Chubb rushed for 143 yards last week in the win over Missouri and carried the ball 38 times. Brendan Douglas also rushed for 65 yards.

Keith Marshall is expected to miss his fourth straight game with a sprained ankle.

To help add some depth in the backfield, the Bulldogs moved J.J. Green from defensive back to running back this week. Green hasn't played running back in a game since the bowl game last season.

Georgia has an open date next week and doesn't play again until facing Florida in Jacksonville on Nov. 1. School officials hope to have a resolution prior to that game.
