U.S. wins IM relay as Simone Manuel anchors win after silver in 50

RIO DE JANEIRO -- The United States women won gold in the 4x100 medley relay Saturday night, edging Australia and Denmark.

Kathleen Baker, Lilly King, Dana Vollmer and Simone Manuel won the race in 3 minutes, 53.13 seconds. It marked the U.S.' second straight gold in the event.

The gold medal also marked the 1,000th all time medal in the Summer Olympics for Team USA.

It marked another memorable night for Samuel.

Earlier, she took home her second individual medal of the Games, winning silver in the women's 50-meter freestyle.

Manuel finished in 24.09 on Saturday, behind Denmark's Pernille Blume (24.07).

Manuel made history when she became the first African-American woman to win a gold medal in swimming Thursday, tying for first in the 100-meter freestyle (52.70) alongside Canada'sPenny Oleksiak.

Manuel, who attends Stanford University, previously earned a silver in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay.
