Warriors' Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry say $5K flop fine unnecessary

While Steve Kerr and Stephen Curryweren't in full agreement Wednesday on the genesis of a play that resulted in the MVP's $5,000 fine, they both were adamant it wasn't worth the league's time or discipline.

The Golden State Warriors coach and guard said his fall after a shot Tuesday was a common occurrence in the NBA.

"These plays happen every day," Kerr said. "I don't think a game goes by where Jamal Crawford doesn't flop six times on his 3-point shots. It's part of the game. I don't blame him for doing it."

Curry was fined for violating the league's anti-flopping rules against the Houston Rockets in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.

The league says the flop occurred after Curry's 3-pointer with 3:07 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Warriors' 110-106 victory.

"Yeah, I don't agree with it," Curry said at practice. "I watched the play over and, transition play, so obviously balance is not very good in that situation."

Kerr conceded that Curry's fall was "probably" a flop but also called the choice to single out Curry "strange."

"Are we just choosing one time to do this?" Kerr said. "You can pick out flops every single game from half the guys on the floor."

Curry made the shot and fell to the court after getting bumped by defender Terrence Jones. The 3-pointer gave the Warriors a 106-97 lead.

"When I shoot it, I see someone hit me on my arm, and when you're up in the air it's obviously a reaction to that," Curry said. "That play happens countless times. I wasn't even looking for the foul; I was just reacting to the contact."
