Mark Teixeira is expected to announce his retirement later Friday effective at the end of the season, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney.
Teixeira, 36, is a three-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove winner. His best season came in 2009, his first with the Yankees, when he hit .292 and finished second in AL MVP voting.
The Yankees have scheduled a 3 p.m. ET news conference about Teixeira, although they did not detail the reason.
