Boy, 6, continues to recover from bus accident in Camden. Vernon Odom reports during Action News at 4:30 p.m. on October 27, 2017.

A little boy is still hospitalized after being hit by a school bus Thursday in Camden.

"The good news is his condition is not life-threatening, but it is life altering," said Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomsan.

Chief Thomsan just paid a hospital visit to the 6-year-old boy, who was severely injured when a school bus ran over him as he crossed the street in the Fairview section after getting off another school bus.

The bus that hit him was moving from the opposite direction.

The child was rushed to surgery last night. His bone fracture injuries are extensive.

"Starting with the pelvis then multiple breaks in the legs, all the way down to the feet," Chief Thomsan said.

At this point in the investigation, police have found no evidence the driver was distracted by social media or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Some folks on the scene claim the bus driver appeared to be texting or reading.

Police say the children were on the sidewalk and the child apparently then darted into the street.

"At this point in time it does not appear any criminal charges will be filed based upon the facts we have now," added Chief Thomsan.

However, police are still waiting for the toxicology report.

The child is expected to undergo more surgery on Saturday.
