SMYRNA, Del. (WPVI) -- A truck transporting live chickens caught fire in Delaware Wednesday morning.
It happened at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday on Route 1 South near Exit 119 in Smyrna.
Images from Chopper 6 HD broadcast live on Action News at noon showed a large truck on the shoulder of the highway and several chickens outside of the vehicle.
Police say a tire located on the rear of the trailer blew and caused a fire to start.
The driver was able to pull the truck onto the shoulder of the roadway and exit the vehicle.
The fire was extinguished by members of the Townsend Fire Company.
There were no injuries no humans or chickens.
The southbound lanes of DE Rt. 1 remained closed until the load of chickens could be placed on another tractor trailer and the disabled truck was removed from the scene.
The highway was reopened at approximately 3:10 p.m.
