Some gas stations in New Jersey below $3 a gallon

BURLINGTON, New Jersey (WPVI) -- You may want to fill up your tank if you're in New Jersey as some gas stations in the Garden State offer fuel for less than $3 a gallon.

Travel experts with Gas Buddy say gas prices have continued to drop for the last three months, which is good news for those who decided to hit the road over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Right now, the Camden metro area is down 50 cents compared to this time last year.

When it comes to the Philadelphia metro, AAA says prices are down 38 cents from a year ago.

In the chart, Philadelphia is represented by the green line, New Jersey is red, and the national average is blue. The lowest points on the chart occurred right after Thanksgiving last year and into December 2022.

Overall, prices appear to be headed downward once again into the final month of 2023.

Regular unleaded was $2.93 Sunday at a Phillips 66 in New Jersey and prices could drop even lower Monday.



Some drivers say that while the low prices are tempting, they're going to fill up the tank whatever the price.

"I need the gas, I got to go," said Chris Schultz from Waterford, New Jersey. "It's out of my control for the most part."

Others say they would make the trip to New Jersey just to save a few bucks.

"It's awesome, I hope it goes under $3," said John Kostiou from Shamong, New Jersey.



In the Garden State, it's on its way there, with some locations already just under $3. Right now, the national average is $3.25 a gallon according to AAA, down 27 cents from a month ago.

In the Philadelphia area, the average is $3.54 a gallon. In South Jersey, it's $3.21

Experts with Gas Buddy say this hurricane season, which is winding down, didn't bring any major impacts to oil production and refining. This has helped keep the gas prices low.

"Anytime gas is lower it's easier for us," commented Daniel Moise from Berlin, New Jersey.
