Police: 5-year-old boy, 71-year-old grandfather shot while at Philadelphia gas station

Police say the victims were shot while sitting in a white Nissan at 61st Street and Passyunk Avenue.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that injured a 71-year-old man and his grandson at a gas station on Saturday evening.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. at a gas station located at 61st Street and Passyunk Avenue.

Police say the victims were shot while sitting in a white Nissan.

The 71-year-old grandfather was driving the vehicle when he was shot in the leg. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in extremely critical condition

The 5-year-old boy was in his car seat when he was shot in the shoulder. He was rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he's listed in stable condition.

The third person in the car returned fire and fled the scene, according to police. It's unknown if he was injured.



Numerous shell casings lined 61st Street and go around the block. Police believe there were two shooters.

Police say 49 rounds have been counted so far. Bullets are from a high-powered rifle and a handgun.

A motive for the shooting is still under investigation, but police believe some of the victims in the Nissan were targeted by the gunmen.

No arrests have been made.
