PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Cell phone video that is part of a police investigation shows the chaos that unfolded after a Temple University student was chased into a campus residence hall and assaulted.

It happened around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the student ran into the lobby of Morgan Hall South, where the group of juveniles followed and created a chaotic scene.

Investigators say the incident included damage inside the lobby, including the smashing of a monitor at the security desk.

Temple Police Deputy Chief Gaetano Sava said incidents involving students and residents are taken seriously.

"It's concerning. Whenever our residents, I mean, we're here for the safety of our residents and our students. So, when anybody is victimized, it's concerning to us. We take it very seriously," Sava said.

Temple police investigators are now working with other law enforcement agencies and the School District of Philadelphia in an effort to identify the young people involved.

"Investigation is ongoing from the video, we have some still shots, and we're hoping the community can help us identify," Sava said.

As the investigation continues, Sava urged students to take advantage of campus safety resources.

"We have a TU safety app, which is an app you can install on your telephone and request a walking escort. You can request a flight shuttle to basically give you a ride home," he said.

Police said the victim was not seriously injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Investigators have not released information about what led up to the violence, but believe at least nine young men were involved.

Police have since increased patrols in the area and are asking anyone with information about the case to contact Temple University Police.
