Temple University student chased, assaulted inside campus dorm: Police

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A group of juveniles chased a Temple University student into the lobby of a dorm and assaulted the student Sunday morning, according to campus police.

The assault occurred just before 3 a.m Sunday inside the Morgan Hall South dorm at Broad and Oxford streets in North Philadelphia.

Temple University police released surveillance photos showing the group of at least nine males whom officers are trying to track down in connection to the assault.

Police said the group of juveniles struck the student and damaged university property after chasing the victim into the lobby.

Morgan Hall is a busy and large dormitory complex of more than 1,200 students, according to university data.

Action News spoke with a student who said he used to live there, and got the alert about the assault.

"It puts the threat actually into perspective because, especially knowing as a college student your main priority is education, not really safety but this happening is a little bit more in the forefront," said sophomore Emanuel Turner.

Police said the victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

Officers are still looking into what led up to the assault.

In the meantime, they're increasing patrols and reviewing more surveillance video.

Officials also said they're working with Philadelphia police and school district safety officials to identify those involved in this assault.
