People in the cycling community are now pushing for safety improvements.
"It's just very tragic what happened to the poor guy. It's just very, very tragic to the whole family. It's a shame," said Terry Kulliver, of Lafayette Hill.
Norristown police said 70-year-old Dr. Jerald Matt, a local dentist, was killed while riding his bike along the Schuylkill River Trail in Norristown.
Investigators said he was crossing Ford and Lafayette streets when he was struck by a driver at the end of July.
Matt was wearing a helmet. Police said the driver did remain at the scene.
"Words can't describe it. So sad what happened here. So tragic," said Kulliver.
Friends said Matt was an avid cyclist, well known and deeply respected in the community.
"Fun-loving, sweet, nice guy," said Kulliver.
Many riders said this intersection feels dangerous and some have witnessed crashes here before.
"I came here and there was someone kind of sprawled out on the street," said Rehman Qureshi, of Media.
The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is now reviewing the incident.
"People don't expect traffic to come through this intersection, so I think a lot of people don't even realize it's a hazard," said John Boyle, Research Director, Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.
Boyle said one solution could be cutting down the vegetation, among others.
"A road safety audit is something the county could do to improve the intersection," said Boyle.
Montgomery County Detectives are leading the investigation.
