Dozens of vehicles damaged by vandals in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The search continued Tuesday for vandals who damaged about two dozen vehicles overnight in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia.

Action News found more than 20 vandalized cars along part of 22nd Street alone, as investigators search for even more possible victims beyond this stretch.

People who live in this area say this neighborhood has been targeted repeatedly.

"The window smashing happens, without fail, once a week. Sometimes multiple times a week. It happens a lot around here," said Josh Mayer.

Investigators say this latest spree unfolded sometime between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Several of the targeted vehicles were found with the glove compartments opened, and the contents scattered.

But, so far, there are no reports of anything of value being stolen.

"What's unfortunate is, I think, a lot of the times they smash not knowing what's in your car. So, they just leave you with a big mess because you had 11 cents in your coin tray," Mayer said.

Needless to say, people who live in this community are feeling frustrated.

"We are paying a lot of money to live here. It's a great place to live. It's a great city, but people are not going to continue to live here if their cars are broken into every other night," said Liz Platzker.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
