"My heart starts racing, kind of traveling the same way," said Leslie Beauregard.
It signifies peace and positivity, but also endless pain knowing it's where Everett Beauregard, 23, took his final steps just feet away from his home before he was randomly shot to death two years ago.
"It seems like it's been forever, but it's just like yesterday, especially being here," said Eric Beauregard.
Everett's parents, Eric and Leslie, along with his friends, lit the sidewalk Saturday night, marking two years since he was killed.
His parents said he had just graduated from Temple University and had the best summer of his life.
"I'm hurting. The person who did it is still out there and it affects us all, but we're making it through," said Areyonna Tompkins, who was friends with Everett. "I feel like what his parents said - we come together; we make a little community for ourselves and the people around us."
Investigators are looking for a male suspect as well as a 1990s to early 2000s two-toned green colored Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Family and friends hope the police find the suspect before more time passes.
"Not only to make him pay for what he's done through the justice system, but we want to find out what part of his life he hit the fork in the road where he thought this was a better alternative than staying on the right course," said Eric.
Eric and Leslie continue their son's mission through the Everett Beauregard Foundation. It helps at-risk youth, especially those impacted by gun violence.
"Every time we looked up his name, the first thing we see is a video of him being killed. That struck us as gut-wrenching," said Eric. "So, we're hoping with the foundation, not only can we keep this from happening to somebody else, itwill allow us to put a good spin on his name."
The Beauregards are on a path to honor Everett, fight for justice, and save another family from enduring an unthinkable loss.
"I have a tattoo that says 'I live for him.' He lives through me. That's all I can do right now," said Leslie.
Everett loved to read, so his parents planned to donate to a local library in October around the time of his birthday.
A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the investigation.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
