Folcroft, Philadelphia officers who survived shootings shake hands

FOLCROFT, Pa. (WPVI) -- Folcroft Police Officer Christopher Dorman was greeted as he left the hospital Monday afternoon by another man who knows exactly what he went through.

Just before he got into the car, Dorman shook the hand of Philadelphia Police Officer Jesse Hartnett.



Hartnett was ambushed by a gunman back on January 7th at 60th and Spruce streets in West Philadelphia.

Officer Hartnett's left arm was shattered by gunfire as he used it to cover his head in the vehicle that night.

Hartnett would testify that he later kicked the door open to pursue the suspect, shooting him three times, before he went to the trunk of his cruiser to look for a tourniquet.



Help soon arrived, and two other officers apprehended the suspect a block away.



Edward Archer was charged with attempted murder and related offenses.

Just like Dorman, Hartnett would recover and even throw out the first pitch at a Phillies game - where he proposed to his girlfriend.



Officer Christopher Dorman was injured while reporting to a call for a man possibly dealing drugs on the 1500 block of Elmwood Street in Folcroft on June 24.



He arrived on the scene and confronted a suspect, police say. There was a struggle and the gunman allegedly drew his weapon and shot Dorman seven times.



Dorman was hit once in the face, four times in the chest, once in the groin and once in the leg.

Donte Brooks Island, aka Abdul Wahi, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and related offenses.
