NEWPORTVILLE, Pa. (WPVI) -- The Bristol Township Council has voted to close the Newportville Volunteer Fire Company, which has served its community for 99 years.

The council approved an ordinance Thursday night that would consolidate five fire districts into four, saying current operations dilute funding and manpower.

Council members hope members of Newportville consider volunteering at another company in the township.
