MIDDLETOWN TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Penncrest senior Mikey Mita suffered a serious eye injury that left his basketball future - and even his vision - in doubt.

Despite being told he might never see out of the eye again, Mikey stayed upbeat, cracking jokes in the doctor's office while his parents cried.

Even while sidelined, he stayed deeply involved with his team. During the district championship at West Chester University, he jumped into the huddle to motivate his teammates, urging them to secure one last rebound.

Behind the scenes, he was already testing his shot, and when he finally returned to the court, his jumper was still pure. His first shot back went in, easing the nerves of playing with limited vision.

Now cleared to play, Mikey is focused on finishing strong with Penncrest before heading to Carnegie Mellon University next year. For him, the priority remains simple: winning with his teammates.
