Philadelphia police give update on Locust Street armed robbery
Police said three men were hanging out and talking to each other when a dark gray Honda Accord pulled up.
That's when three males got out of the car and approached the victims, while displaying firearms -- including one that appeared to be an AR-15-style rifle.
A fourth suspect is believed to have stayed inside the getaway vehicle, police said.
Two of the victims complied when the men ordered them to the ground, police said. A third victim was struck in the face with a handgun during an altercation.
The robbers took cellphones, watches, car keys, wallets, driver's licenses and cash before fleeing southbound on 15th Street from Locust St. in the Accord, according to investigators.
Officials say that getaway car was stolen out of Cheltenham Twp. on Aug 19, and later recovered after the robberies in the Philadelphia area.
Police said they are not sure if the victims were targeted but noted that the vehicle has been in the area for roughly three hours prior to the robbery. Officials also said there is no information of any similar robberies.
The case is being investigated by the Central Detective Division. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department's tip line at 215-686-TIPS.
