AR-15-style rifle used in gunpoint robberies in Center City Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating after three people were robbed at gunpoint early Sunday in Center City.
Police say the suspects were masked men, armed with handguns and what appeared to be an AR-15-style rifle.
Officers responded around 3 a.m. to the 1500 block of Locust Street for a report of a robbery in progress. Police said three males arrived in a dark gray Honda Accord, got out and approached three individuals on the block while displaying firearms -- including one that appeared to be an AR-15-style rifle.
Two of the victims complied when the men ordered them to the ground, police said. A third victim was struck in the face with a handgun during an altercation.
The robbers took cellphones, watches, car keys, wallets, driver's licenses and cash before fleeing eastbound on Locust Street in the Hyundai, according to investigators.
A video of one of the incidents, which was posted on social media, is part of the investigation.
The case is being investigated by the Central Detective Division. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department's tip line at 215-686-TIPS.
