Water main break floods portion of Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia

Water department crews were able to turn off the main, revealing a gaping hole in the median after the water receded.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A water main break flooded part of the Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia early Thursday morning.

The main burst around 3:15 a.m. Thursday at Goodnaw Street, near the Santander Bank and Applebee's.

Philadelphia Water Department crews responded and shut down the 16-inch water main.

All lanes of the Boulevard were shut down in both directions between Grant Avenue and Welsh Road for close to three hours.

Water department crews were able to turn off the main around 6 a.m., revealing a gaping hole in the median after the water receded.

The inner northbound and southbound lanes of the Roosevelt Boulevard will remain closed between Grant Avenue and Welsh Road while work takes place.

Officials say no properties are without water.



This same section of the Boulevard suffered a water main break back in July. It took crews nearly 20 hours to repair.
