Lawmakers look to change legal smoking age to 21

Tuesday, December 17, 2019
Lawmakers want to raise the legal smoking age from 18 to 21 across the country.

That would match the drinking age.

It's a measure contained in the federal government spending agreement that was unveiled on Monday.

A number of states have already raised the tobacco sales age, but this would standardize it across the country.

The law would take effect about nine months after the president signs it.
