When he was 3 years old, Merriweather went into septic shock. It's believed he contracted an aggressive strain of the flu.
His recovery process required the amputation of both his arms and both his legs.
Merriweather had to learn how to adapt to every aspect of life all over again. But it never stopped him from pursuing sports such as swimming, soccer, and basketball.
But it was the sport of track and field where he found his calling.
Now a student athlete at Wissahickon High School, he shines as an inspiration on and off the race track.
In the future, he dreams of one day going gold at the Paralympics.
