Robbery of pizza deliveryman leads to police chase, crash

A short police pursuit left a Philadelphia street looking like a demolition derby track.

OLNEY (WPVI) -- The robbery of a pizza deliveryman led to a police chase and crash early Monday morning in the Olney section of Philadelphia.

It started before 12:30 a.m. Monday when the suspect tried to rob a pizza deliveryman at 13th and West Rockland streets.

Police say the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Christopher Roberson, threatened the 47-year-old victim after he made a delivery.

The deliveryman ran, even approaching the driver of an nearby running car, pleading for help. But police say once the driver realized what was happening, he sped off.

Roberson then caught up to and robbed the deliveryman, but was chased off after the victim bit him in the inner thigh, police say.

According to police, Roberson then stole the deliveryman's car, a light-colored Mercury Sable.

The victim called for help. Police were nearby.

During a short chase the stolen vehicle hit a number of vehicles, leaving a man and a woman with minor injuries.

That's where Roberson was arrested.

Roberson is charged with: Robbery, Aggravated Assault and related offenses.
