NEWARK, Delaware (WPVI) -- A man has been arrested for an attempted kidnapping at a day care in Newark, Delaware.

Delaware State Police say 47-year-old Calvin Davis faces numerous charges, including kidnapping and assault on a law enforcement officer.

Police say Davis got into the Happy Kids Academy on Old Baltimore Pike just after 7 a.m. Friday.

According to police, Davis rang the doorbell to the daycare and was met by an employee. He allegedly pushed her in the face upon entering the building, and proceeded to the infant room where he approached another employee.

Davis allegedly began arguing with the second employee, then punched her in the face.

Police say he then picked up two infants from the floor, holding each one under his arms as he walked to the front door of the day care.

The first employee blocked the door with her body and refused to allow Davis from leaving. At the same time, the other employee approached Davis from behind and pulled one of the infants free from his grasp.

The other infant began to slowly fall from his other arm, but one of the employees safely grabbed the baby.

Davis then fled the scene, and police later tracked him to an apartment complex where he was spotted walking out from behind a building.

The suspect began walking toward the officers. He was directed to show his hands multiple times, but police say he refused and continued his approach.

A police officer deployed his taser in an attempt to subdue Davis, however it proved ineffective.

While trying to reload the taser and put distance between himself and Davis, the officer tripped on a curb causing him to fall backwards and sustain injury.

While on the ground the officer deployed the taser a second time, but it was again ineffective.

The officer then struck Davis with a baton, and was able to take him into custody.

One of the infants sustained a minor laceration during the incident.

State police say Davis was arrested earlier this week after entering Albert Jones Elementary School in Christiana around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A statement from Albert Jones Elementary School reads in part:

"An individual did enter the school and speak to the school secretary, and did make inappropriate comments that were thought to be threatening. The individual left the school shortly after making the comments, and the school immediately contacted 911 and provided a detailed description."

Davis was later apprehended and charged with disorderly conduct and threatening behavior, arraigned and released with a no contact order with the school.
