WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Parents of students in Delaware charter school planned to rally in support of a school principal apparently removed by the board.

They were busy making protest signs on Monday in support of Salome Thomas-El of Thomas Edison Charter School.

The school's board says he was put on leave of absence.

Beverly White says the principal was loved and respected by students and parents alike, and she wants to know what happened.

"We want answers to why this happened, why the embarrassment to the school. I don't know what they're going to say, but it better be a good one, because this is not right," she said.

The school is well known for its chess team, which has won several national championships.
