Principal offering students $100 to stay off devices this summer: Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4:30 p.m. on June 27, 2017.

WASHINGTON (WPVI) -- If you're trying to find ways to get your kid to unplug this summer, there's a screen time challenge that's peaking a lot of parents attention.

Washington D.C. school principal Diana Smith's plan is pretty much a bribe and here's how it works.

Go without any screens or devices for the 11 tuesdays of the summer and - earn $100.

Smith is offering the cold hard cash - from her own pocket - to each 8th and 9th grader who can forgo phones, tablets, Tvs - anything with a screen - every Tuesday this summer.

Smith says this could cost her a pretty penny, but it's an investment in her students.
