PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --There was a major announcement Wednesday about the Mummers.
They're planning another parade; this one for February.
It's the "Philadelphia Mummers Mardi Gras in Manayunk" parade!
It'll be a fundraiser event. The Mummer's Association has been hit hard financially in recent years, largely due to the national economic slump.
They will march along Manayunk's Main Street retail and restaurant corridor.
The parade will kick off at the intersection of Green Lane and Main Street at 10:00 a.m. on February 22nd.
It will end around noon at Lock Street.
The hope is the parade will help keep the Mummer's tradition alive.
Unlike the New Year's Mummer's parade, Manayunk's Mardi Gras parade will be a smaller version.
The inaugural march will include only string bands and there will be no cost to the city.
