Parents outraged over middle school homework assignment on ISIS

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (WPVI) -- Parents in Gwinnett County, Georgia are angry about some middle school homework teaching students graphic lessons about ISIS.

The 7th grade language and social studies lesson went into detail about the terror group's beheadings.

It included a cartoon of a man walking away with a bloody knife.

District officials defended the plan, but parents say it goes too far.

"This does represent the rigorous integrated lessons that we want our students to be exposed to. It was designed to make students think," said Sloan Roach from Gwinnett County Schools.

"There is zero tolerance for weapons in Gwinnett Country, but yet this was OK to send home," said one parent.

The district says only a handful of parents have made formal complaints, but dozens have complained on social media.
