What color is this dress? Depends on who you ask
NEW YORK -- What color is this dress? Tumblr user Swiked wants people's opinion on if the dress is white and gold or blue and black.
She wrote: "guys please help me - is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can't agree"
The debate is fierce all over the internet and among people everywhere!
But why do people see #TheDress differently?
"Something about the color palate illustrates that processing difference between people," said opthalmologist Dr. Mitchell Fineman of Wills Eye Hospital.
Fineman was surprised a picture of the dress sparked so much debate.
He explains the image comes in through the rods and cones of the eyes. Then, that image goes to the brain and that's where differences arise.
"Everybody sees the same colors but their brain interprets it in a different way," Fineman said.
He says many factors including personal experience, light and background can influence how your brain interprets color.
But for the record, the maker of the dress says...
It'sblue and black.
