PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Food trucks took center stage Monday during a Philadelphia City Council meeting.
The Committee on Streets and Services listened to testimony on a bill requiring inspections and other regulations regarding the vehicle's fuel tanks.
Council president Darrell Clarke proposed the measure last year, after a mother and her daughter were killed when their food truck exploded in Hunting Park.
He says safety must be the city's first priority.
"The fact that we should have a safe environment when you look at areas like universities, Temple University, Drexel University, Penn, you literally have blocks and blocks of food trucks in close proximity to a number of pedestrians," Clark said.
Clark says he hopes to have the bill finalized by next month.
