Pennsylvania's junior senator has earned an important distinction in Congress and no it's not a new committee assignment.

Senator Pat Toomey has assumed the role of Senate Candy Man.

The Republican has taken on the responsibility of satisfying his colleagues' sweet tooth by constantly tending to the chamber's candy desk and yes, it really does exist.

It's been around since 1965 and he is the 17th senator with the task of keeping it stocked which he says can be a bit of a challenge.

"There are some senators who are known for having their big appetites as a general matter, but we'll be watching to see who spends an inordinate amount of time at the candy desk," Toomey said.

Toomey says it makes perfect sense that he'd get the job because, he says, Pennsylvania is the candy capital of America.

Toomey says he favors 3 Musketeers, which he keeps for himself in his office.
