VIDEO: Breast imaging tool being tested
Tests are underway on a new imaging tool to detect breast cancer.

Nationwide tests are underway on a new imaging tool to detect breast cancer.

The new device is used when a lump is found, and can determine whether the lump is a tumor or a benign cyst.

Using laser light, it reads the amount of oxygen in the mass, which can indicate it is a tumor.

The tool could be an alternative to a much more invasive biopsy, in which tissue has to be removed.
