Study: 3 out of 4 kids who died from flu weren't vaccinated. Ali Gorman reports during Action News at 5 p.m. on April 3, 2017.

Flu season may be winding down, but as it does, there's a good lesson for next fall.

This is a reminder the CDC recommends all children 6-months and older should be vaccinated against the flu.

We're seeing evidence that it could prevent most of the young lives lost to due to complications of the virus.

A government study found three of every four kids who died from the flu wasn't vaccinated.

And kids who were at high risk for flu complications, such as those with asthma or chronic lung or heart disease, accounted for more than half of those deaths.

Children who get flu shots have a much lower chance of getting the flu or its complications even in years when the vaccine isn't as effective.
