Researchers found simple sugar water helped ease the symptoms.

There might be a way to help young children with coughing, and congestion, without using medicine.

Researchers at Penn State University found simple sugar water, or agave nectar, helped ease the symptoms.

The children even slept better, compared to children who received no treatment.

It's the basic placebo effect, but the researchers say the sweet solution has no side effects, unlike over-the-counter drugs.

The FDA recommends not giving cough medicines to kids under 2-years-old... many pediatricians suggest not even under 4.
