Police are investigating a double shooting that left one man dead and a woman critically injured in Camden, New Jersey early Saturday morning.

CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police are investigating a double shooting that left one man dead and a woman critically injured in Camden, New Jersey early Saturday morning.

Authorities say a man shot a woman around 4:15 a.m. near the intersection of Marlton Pike and Baird Boulevard.

The pair had been dating and recently split up, police say.

The injured woman's father put her in his car and drove her to Cooper Hospital.

Officers say the man who shot her was followed by police after they saw him run a red light.

The suspect refused to stop and fled the traffic stop. He kept driving to the hospital with police pursuing.

Officers say they approached the man and that's when he shot and killed himself outside the emergency room.

The woman is in critical condition.

Cooper Hospital says it is operating at normal conditions and the situation remains under investigation by the Camden County Metro Police.
