SOMERTON (WPVI) -- A mother and daughter are recovering after being attacked by at least one dog in the Somerton section of Philadelphia.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. Tuesday on the 200 block of Lockart Lane.

Upon arrival, medics located a 60-year-old mother and her 31-year-old daughter.

Both suffered bites to the back.

Two women are recovering after a dog attack in Somerton.

While tended to the victims in the medic vehicle, police heard a gunshot.

Since they couldn't immediately determine the origin, they called for assistance.

It was determined that a 67-year-old male neighbor fired the shot at the dogs, but did not strike them.

He was taken in for questioning to determine if he has a permit to carry.

Police say the man told them that he too had been attacked and bitten by one of the dogs in the past.

Both women were transported to Holy Redeemer Hospital for care. They are stable.

The two dogs were removed and transported to the PSPCA.

Police believe only one of the dogs attacked the women.
